Nineteenth anniversary
Today is our nineteenth wedding anniversary. We ate lunch at Bikkuri Donkey. It's not the most romantic restaurant, but it's the only place that puts cheese and pineapple on my hamburger.

Kobito
Lately both my sons have been spending their monthly allowances on these "Kobito" figures. They even have a book that explains each kobito's character, habits, etc.
When my boys were small they liked cute characters like Anpanman and Thomas. Later they collected action figures and Pokemon cards. It's hard for me to understand why figures with old men's faces are now so popular.

My Daughter's School Trip
My daughter just got back from a three day school trip to Kyoto. I'm envious of the trips kids get these days as mine were so short and boring! The weather wasn't so nice but she got a few good pictures.
I was relieved when she came home. She looked tired but said she had a wonderful time. And she brought these great souvenirs.

Learning Japanese
You may wonder why we have two copies of each grade 3 Japanese text. I've decided to study together with my youngest son. I started learning Japanese shortly after coming to Japan 23 years ago. I memorized many "kanji" then too. But years later I can no longer remember how to write them. I hope to keep up with my son for the next few years.

Happy Birthday
Yesterday was my son's eleventh birthday. Here he is eating sushi at his favorite restaurant "Sato".
This cake was designed just for him. It has his favorite Kobito character "Takarakogane".

Fuji Vacation (Part 2)
On Friday we went to Fugaku Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave. The caves are within walking distance of one another. Both were formed 1130 years ago when Fuji san erupted and pushed gas and magma through this area. These caves are much colder than usual caves and maintain these ice formations throughout the year.
That evening we stopped at Gotemba Outlet for a few hours of shopping before heading home.

Fuji Vacation (Part 1)
On Thursday we took our kids to Tanuki Lake near Mt. Fuji. The weather was perfect for a picnic and we had an excellent view of Fuji san. We rented bicycles and rode around the lake (3.3 km)
Later we went to Shiraito Falls. We've been several times but my kids said they couldn't remember.
That evening we stayed at a large, comfortable lodge at Fuji Milk Land. My youngest son said he liked it so much he would like to live there.
There were several animals at Fuji Milk Land. My sons helped milk the cow, played with the goats, and rode one of the horses.

Jubiro vs. Cerezo
On Tuesday evening we went to Iwata Stadium to watch Jubiro Iwata play Cerezo Osaka. This time we weren't disappointed. Jubiro won (2 - 1) and we could watch several great moves. It was pretty cold but we dressed warmly and sat close together.

Chibikko Marathon 2012
Today my older son ran in the 2000 meter Chibikko Marathon. (My younger son couldn't participate because he had a soccer match.) Last year he was disappointed because he came in eleventh place. This time he placed seventh (7:48) and was pleased with his result.

Three Year Olds
In March our students move up one grade. That's not a problem for the older students. But it means the three year olds start the kindergarten class without their mothers present. So I have to deal with a lot of tears for 2 - 3 weeks (some mothers cry too!) But I'm glad to see the three year olds becoming independent and trying to behave like their older peers.

Final Competition of the Season
On Saturday my three kids went to Kanagawa for their final speed skating competition of the season. My youngest son fell and came home with a sore waist. Here's a download of my son training in Hamamatsu. He's the third skater.

Ｈａｍａｍａｔｓｕ Ｃｉｔｙ Ｍａｒａｔｈｏｎ
On Sunday my wife and sons joined 10,000 other runners in the Hamamatsu City Marathon. We had perfect weather. But my older son felt sick near the end of his 3 km race and didn't finish well. My wife entered the 5 km event. She trained for two months but was worried that she'd be disqualified by going over the 30 minute time limit. But she was pleased to finish in just under 29 minutes. She had very sore legs that evening.

Chocolates
My daughter made these yesterday for someone special. Too bad that special person wasn't me. But I was treated to some chocolate cake she prepared. The reason she made these a week after Valentine's Day is that she had to study for her final exams until Thursday. The chocolates and cake took most of Sunday to make.

The flu
My youngest son has been sick with the flu since Sunday. He still has a fever and will most likely miss school all this week. He looks sad and bored most of the time. But yesterday he was happy that friends from school dropped by with these Valentine's Day presents.
